Homeopathic medicine is based on scientific experiments which have been undertaken by homeopaths for over 200 years in order to uncover and analyze the healing properties of medicinal substances. Homeopathic remedies go through a rigorous testing process which starts with a proving experiment. During a proving, healthy subjects, including homeopaths, homeopathy students and laypeople, will take small controlled doses of homeopathic remedies in order to discover this healing properties. The whole understanding of health and disease in homeopathy lies on the foundation of these experiments, which give homeopaths their primary understanding of the healing properties of a substance. This opens the door for the homeopathic remedies to then be tested on sick patients based on homeopathic methods and principles. This then is the second phase of the study of medicines in homeopathy.
The remedy is selected based on the principle of “like cures like”; which states that a natural substance is able to neutralize the same symptoms or illness that it can cause. This idea makes use of the body’s inner healing potential by triggering it to push back against the stimulation of the homeopathic remedy. When the homeopathic remedy matches the body’s unique expression of the illness, it triggers it to move towards health both in the specific organ of the disease and in the person as a whole, resulting in better sleep, higher energy, and improved resistance to the mental and emotional stresses of life.
Homeopathy has been in existence for over 200 years, is practiced all over the world and has been recognized by the World Health Organization as the second largest system of natural medicine.
Who Can Become a Homeopath?
In Canada and the United States, you can train to become a homeopathic practitioner if you have a high school diploma, a good understanding of the English language, and a strong desire to help people. Homeopaths come from a wide range of backgrounds, including non-medical and medical ones. The practice of homeopathy requires the use of logic and insightfulness and each student brings to it their unique skills and perspective. During our 3-year Professional Homeopathic Training Program, you will acquire an in-depth knowledge of how to use homeopathic remedies to help patients. The program also includes the study of medical sciences such as the anatomy, physiology and pathology of the different organ systems of the body. Students who already have prior training in medical sciences may obtain equivalencies for these parts of the program. Learn more by visiting our Program Overview page.
